YouTube star Christina Grimmie shot dead in Florida

The Voice and YouTube star Christina Grimmie was shot dead in Florida by a gunman who opened fire as she signed autographs for fans after a show, police said Saturday.

Her fans expressed their shock in an outpouring of grief on Twitter, using #RIPChristina.

Orlando police were told that the gunman walked toward Grimmie and shot her, after a gig at The Plaza Live with her band Before You Exit. 

Her brother tackled the gunman immediately as he opened fire, and the gunman shot and killed himself in the struggle. Police said her brother's actions prevented the gunman from hurting other people.

She died in a local hospital.
